About Us

AGS is a highly successful school, rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted, achieving excellent examination results in terms both of actual grades and the value added, highly active and successful in sports, music and drama, offering a wide range of extra-curricular activities, and providing leadership and guidance to other schools through a range of outreach activities.

The School continues to live and breathe its motto of ‘Respect and Aspire’ and it can confidently claim that its strapline of ‘Nurturing Character since 1598’ is not just a bland statement. However, over those years to date, it has witnessed a huge amount of change, a few disasters and more than its fair share of exciting moments and thrilling triumphs.

Since its foundation, the School has survived 19 monarchs, the upheaval of two world wars - as well as the English Civil War - and various relocations around Aylesbury. AGS began life as a boys' school, then at the turn of the 20th century it became co-educational, and it finally reverted back to being a boys’ school when Aylesbury High School was founded in 1959.
